We recently had the honor of designing and providing the furniture for The Jewish Council for the Aging’s (JCA) renovated SeniorTech classroom. JCA’s SeniorTech program offers students age 50 and better learn computer basics, word processing, email, graphics design and more at five JCA SeniorTech Computer Training Centers throughout the DC metro area, where courses are taught by expert, older volunteers.
In addition to a wide variety of classes that can help those age 50+ succeed in the workplace – or in their own entrepreneurial endeavors – many SeniorTech classes focus on digital literacy skills that can help seniors stay connected to family and friends, including how-to sessions on iPad, iPhone, Facebook, video and Skype.
Founded in 1973 The Jewish Council for the Aging serves seniors throughout the metro DC area. To the isolated senior with no means of getting around, the JCA is a smiling ElderBus driver who cheerfully helps with canes, walkers and wheelchairs and even carries packages with a smile.
To the concerned family member suddenly faced with overwhelming health or home care issues, the JCA is the confident voice of an information specialist who understands precisely the services needed to care for a beloved parent or spouse and can access their unique, comprehensive database to find needed resources close to home.
For the senior that is frail or suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or other challenges, the JCA is a safe and caring place that provides dignified assistance at adult day centers that are second to none.
To the older job-seeker, the JCA is a friend, advocate, teacher and guide. The JCA provides vibrant inter generational programs that build bridges and shatter stereotypes as they help young students succeed in school and life. They provide volunteer-run computer training programs that have graduated 11,000 adults since 1992. The are different faces in various places – but united in their mission of helping local seniors experience the positive side of aging while making the Nation Capital Area a great place to age.
We are proud to have helped the JCA re-design their SeniorTech training room to make it user friendly and easier for seniors to access their computer equipment and see their instructors. Using OFGO’s My Zone line of training tables we were able to create a modern, sleek looking training room that met all of JCA’s requirements. We even created a custom unit that fits on top of each training table to hold the monitors at the proper ergonomic height and allows for storage of CPU’s underneath.
