According to an article written by Sally Percy, What Our Email Addiction Says About Contemporary Corporate Life emails are one of the biggest sources of stress in our lives.  I know it is for me – I even obsessively check my emails at stop lights.

Sally goes on to explain that ” Stress is one of the biggest problems in the workplace today. And what is one of the biggest causes of stress? It seems that it is the humble email. Or rather, it is the tens, if not hundreds, of humble emails that many of us get every day. According to a report by research firm the Radicati Group, an estimated 269 billion emails were sent per day in 2017, with email users globally receiving 72 emails a day on average. That’s a lot of emails.

Given the volume of emails that we have to process, it’s hardly surprising that we are wedded to our inboxes during the daylight hours. What is more worrying, however, is that many of us even feel under pressure to respond to emails in the middle of the night.

Recent research by British Summer Fruits found that 44% of Brits claim that they frequently send emails to colleagues and clients between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. What’s more, one in 10 say they would fear for their job if they didn’t respond to emails promptly”.
