According to an article written by Melanie Ewing, What is Resimercial Design, many companies today are bringing the comfort of home into the workplace to help increase productivity and collaboration. Melanie is the Marketing Director of COE Office Furniture one of our largest suppliers and they have taken the lead in developing resimercial office furniture.
In her article Melanie goes on to point out that “Resimercial is not a new term, but it is one that seems to be trending in the office furniture industry”. Here is everything you need to know about this latest office design movement.
What is Resimercial Design?
The term resimerical started in the architectural engineering industry as a way of explaining the creation of a bridge from residential to commercial architecture. This same definition applies to the office furniture industry. The theory is that more comfortable work environments tend to help workers relax and collaborate more naturally. Bringing in the comforts of home into the working environment.
This trend went full force as Millennials and Gen Z’ers entered the workforce. The younger generation grew up with technology at their fingertips at all times, thus creating a notion that work can happen anytime, anywhere. With this constantly connected mentality the idea of making the actual workplace include elements of relaxation brought this term over into the office furniture industry.
